Holland America’s longest run across the Pacific is not taking bookings the normal way anymore.
The 34 Day Legendary South Pacific Crossing sails Noordam from Seattle to Sydney, leaving October 11, 2026 and arriving November 15.
Holland America’s own page for the sailing now shows a waitlist option instead of a starting fare.
That’s more than a year of lead time on a voyage that has already filled up.
There is a second version of the same crossing in 2027, and that one is still selling.
Here’s what the route covers, why it sold the way it did, and what the 2027 sailing looks like.
What The 34 Day Crossing Actually Covers
Noordam leaves Seattle and works down the Hawaiian chain properly rather than treating it as one quick stop.
Hilo, Honolulu, Nawiliwili and Kona, four calls across four islands.

Then it heads for one of the strangest ports on any mainstream itinerary.
Kiritimati, better known as Christmas Island, is the largest atoll in the world by land area. It sits in Kiribati, and its time zone runs 14 hours ahead of Greenwich, which makes it one of the first inhabited places on earth to reach each new day.
Noordam calls there on October 24 for roughly seven hours.
From there the ship reaches French Polynesia with an overnight in Papeete, then Moorea and Raiatea.
Rarotonga in the Cook Islands follows, then two stops in Tonga at Vava’u and Nuku’alofa.
New Zealand gets three calls: the Bay of Islands, Auckland and Wellington.
Then Sydney.
Along the way the ship crosses the equator on day 14 and crosses the International Date Line twice, according to a US News roundup of the route.
Heads up: Kiritimati has almost no tourism infrastructure and the call runs about seven hours. This is a stop for seabirds, flats fishing and empty beaches, not shopping streets and taxi ranks.
Why This Sold Out More Than A Year Early
Holland America built the Legendary Voyages series around a specific idea.
These are long sailings, 25 to 59 nights, that mostly start and end at a North American port.
That design solves the problem every Pacific crossing usually creates. You reach Australia without booking an international flight in either direction, because you board in Seattle and the airfare home is the only one you buy.
The audience for that is older, retired, and has both the time and the calendar flexibility to book three years out.
We saw the same appetite firsthand on our coverage of Holland America’s two 2028 Grand Voyages, where readers filled the comments asking for pricing on a voyage that had not opened to the public yet.
Noordam is also small by modern standards. It carries 1,972 guests and runs 936 feet, which is a fraction of what the newer ships hold.

Fewer cabins, a route that only runs once a year, and a buyer who books early. That’s how a 2026 sailing closes in 2026.
The 2027 Version You Can Still Book
Holland America runs the same crossing again the following year on Westerdam.
That sailing departs Seattle on September 19, 2027, also 34 days, also finishing in Sydney. Holland America markets it as the Honolulu and Tahiti version, voyage code W765.
Fares are listed on Holland America’s site and vary by cabin category.
If the Pacific in the other direction suits your calendar better, the line runs eastbound versions too. Noordam sails Sydney to Seattle on March 28, 2027, and Westerdam does the same run on March 26, 2028.
I’d move on the 2027 sailing rather than wait for a price drop.
Long repositioning voyages on small ships don’t behave like a seven night Caribbean week. There’s no last minute inventory dump, because the cabins are gone before the last minute arrives.
How It Compares To The Royal Caribbean Crossings
Both lines are moving ships to Australia in the fall. They are not selling the same trip.
| Noordam, Oct 2026 | Voyager, Oct 2027 | |
|---|---|---|
| Line | Holland America | Royal Caribbean |
| Nights | 34 | 25 |
| From | Seattle | Seattle |
| To | Sydney | Brisbane |
| Hawaii calls | Four | One |
| French Polynesia | Papeete overnight, Moorea, Raiatea | Moorea, Papeete, Raiatea |
| Other regions | Kiribati, Cook Islands, Tonga, New Zealand | Vanuatu |
| Guests | 1,972 | About 3,600 |
Royal Caribbean’s 25 night Seattle to Brisbane crossing on Voyager is nine nights shorter and the ship holds nearly twice as many people.
Holland America gives you more islands and a smaller ship. Royal Caribbean gives you more to do on the sea days, and there are a lot of sea days either way.
Which one is right depends on whether you want the ship or the map to be the point.
What To Watch Next
The 2027 Westerdam sailing is the one to track, since it’s the version most readers can actually get on.
Watch whether Holland America opens more cabin categories on the 2026 Noordam crossing as the date approaches. Waitlists move when deposits lapse, and long voyages carry more cancellations than short ones.
The eastbound sailings are the quieter opportunity. Fewer people think to sail home from Australia rather than out to it, which usually means better availability. We looked at that pattern when Carnival scheduled a 23 night crossing from Sydney to San Francisco.
The broader trend worth watching is mainstream lines pushing further into ultra long itineraries that used to belong to luxury brands. A 34 day crossing selling out a year early suggests the demand is deeper than the industry assumed.
Would you commit 34 days to reach Australia by sea, or does the shorter 25 night crossing sound like enough time on a ship?
